Zach found a great channel of purpose through the Youth Directions program. His moving story is an example of what the program can do, and has been doing for youth throughout Colorado.
This was a piece that was used to open the Christmas Eve service at The Rock church in Castle Rock. Inspired by Louie Giglio’s message “The Twelve Words of Christmas” Cyndi Hampton wrote a beautiful monologue. Put to Aaron Wagnor’s music and the cinematography of James Drake, and the tasty art direction of Michael Sweet. Locations, talent and other mysteries were provided by Denise Rice. And let’s not forget the loving support of Miler Harveaux and John Smith. Very special thank you to Paul and Linda Scholtz for providing the donkey for Mary to ride.
Rachel and the Kings is a band with a great sound and talented musicians. Director Brad Scott from Definite Productions brought together an impressive production. Peter Wigand was DP and on this shoot I was camera support/DIT.
The music video shoot had it all: Slow motion, rain, paint splatter, crazy light show, hanging lights… all of it will contribute to incredible visuals when this piece comes together. Keep an eye out for it!
When provided the opportunity to cam op a gig with Switchfoot for their upcoming documentary, my answer was instantly “yes”. Better yet, I got to work with the super talented Wade Yamaguchi, a good friend and camera guy.
Switchfoot has an incredible stage presence. They craft their performances masterfully to emote the precise emotion held in each song. Part of that performance is raw talent, the other part is the technology backing them. Needless to say, as a cinematographer, the lighting was something to be seen. Huge LED lights that morphed symbols and patterns, a ton of colored ellipsoidal and PAR lights pointing every direction, and strobes to accent. I was positioned rear stage left which left some challenges. 1) I wouldn’t be seeing much of any of the band members faces. 2) I couldn’t move very much in my position. These were pickup shots for an ongoing documentary that already had a large library of footage. I had to kick creativity into high gear to get unique shots and frames that would help tell the story of Switchfoot. Here’s a few captures: (click on an image to start gallery slideshow)
Desperation is a high school youth conference put on by New Life Church coming up in June 2013.
I didn’t shoot all of the footage in this promo, but quite a few shots on the Epic made it in the final cut. Killer editing work by Cory Reynolds and Seth Schaeffer! Many thanks to the big crew that helped this thing go off without a hitch!
